1. About Coast & Country Walking
Coast & Country Walking provides guided walks, walking days, experience days, weekend walking breaks and short walking breaks. Unless expressly stated otherwise, Coast & Country Walking does not provide accommodation or transport as part of weekend or short-break bookings.
By making a booking, participants agree to these Terms & Conditions.
2. Bookings and Payment
Places are subject to availability and are only confirmed once the required booking and payment process has been completed.
Participants are responsible for ensuring that the information supplied when booking is accurate and for providing a valid email address and contact telephone number.
Where one person makes a booking for another participant, they are responsible for ensuring that the other participant is aware of the relevant walk information and these Terms & Conditions.
3. Participant Information
Participants may be required to provide information reasonably necessary for the safe management of walks and activities, including emergency contact details and relevant medical information.
Participants are responsible for ensuring that information supplied is accurate and for informing Coast & Country Walking of any relevant changes.
Personal information is handled in accordance with the Coast & Country Walking Privacy Policy.
4. Fitness, Health and Medical Conditions
Participants are responsible for considering whether a walk or activity is suitable for their own level of fitness, experience and health.
Walk descriptions and grades are intended to provide reasonable guidance but cannot account for every individual's abilities or circumstances.
Participants should disclose relevant medical conditions, injuries, allergies or other information that could reasonably affect their safety or participation.
Where there is uncertainty about an individual's ability to participate safely, appropriate professional medical advice should be sought before taking part.
5. Walk Grades and Information
Distances, durations, ascent, route descriptions and grading are provided as reasonable guidance.
Actual distance, duration and difficulty may vary because of weather, ground conditions, diversions, access restrictions, group circumstances or route changes.
6. Routes and Changes
Coast & Country Walking reserves the right to vary a route before or during a walk without prior notice where reasonably necessary.
Changes may be made for reasons including participant safety, weather, ground conditions, access restrictions, unexpected hazards, livestock, route obstructions or other circumstances affecting the safe or practical running of the activity.
7. Weather
Walks normally take place in a wide range of weather conditions.
Participants should arrive suitably equipped for the conditions reasonably expected on the day.
A walk may be cancelled, postponed, shortened or altered where weather conditions create an unacceptable safety risk. This includes circumstances such as a relevant Met Office Red weather warning or other conditions where the walk leader considers there to be a significant risk to participants.
8. Public Access and Rights of Way
Walks normally use public rights of way, permissive routes, access land and other places where the public is lawfully permitted access.
Participants must respect landowners, other users, property, livestock, wildlife and the countryside.
Access conditions can change without notice and routes may therefore need to be altered.
9. Walk Leader Instructions
Participants must follow reasonable instructions given by the walk leader relating to safety, route management, group management and the conduct of the activity.
The walk leader may take reasonable action where necessary to protect the safety or welfare of the group.
10. Personal Responsibility
Walking and outdoor activities involve inherent risks including, but not limited to, uneven or slippery ground, mud, steep terrain, roads, traffic, livestock, weather, water, vegetation and other natural or man-made hazards.
Participants are expected to take reasonable responsibility for their own actions and safety and to exercise appropriate care during an activity.
Nothing in these Terms & Conditions excludes or limits liability where it would be unlawful to do so.
11. Clothing and Equipment
Participants are responsible for bringing clothing, footwear, food, drink and equipment appropriate for the advertised activity and expected conditions.
Where specific equipment is required, this will normally be stated in the joining information.
Coast & Country Walking may refuse participation where inadequate clothing or equipment creates a material safety concern.
12. Dogs and Animals
Dogs are welcome on activities where they are specifically permitted.
Owners remain responsible for their dogs at all times and must keep them under appropriate control.
Dogs must be placed on a lead where required by law, signage, livestock, land-management requirements, the circumstances of the walk or a reasonable instruction from the walk leader.
Owners are responsible for their dog's behaviour and for any loss, damage or injury caused by their dog to the extent provided by law.
13. Children and Young People
Where children or young people are permitted to participate, they must be accompanied and appropriately supervised by a responsible adult unless Coast & Country Walking has expressly agreed otherwise.
The responsible adult remains responsible for deciding whether the activity is appropriate for the child or young person.
14. Personal Property
Participants remain responsible for their own clothing, equipment, vehicles and personal belongings.
Coast & Country Walking cannot accept responsibility for loss of or damage to personal property unless caused by negligence or where liability cannot lawfully be excluded.
15. Transport and Parking
Unless expressly stated otherwise, participants are responsible for arranging their own transport to and from the meeting point.
Any parking information provided is given in good faith but availability, charges and restrictions may change.
Participants are responsible for complying with parking restrictions and for allowing sufficient time to arrive before the advertised start.
16. Participant Cancellations – Walks
For walks taking place during 2026, cancellations must normally be made at least 5 days before the walk to qualify for a booking credit.
From 2027, the standard cancellation period will be 7 days before the activity, unless different terms are stated at the time of booking.
Where the applicable cancellation deadline has passed, no credit will normally be provided unless Coast & Country Walking agrees otherwise.
17. Booking Credits
Where a participant cancels within the applicable cancellation period and qualifies for a credit, the amount paid will normally be returned as a Coast & Country Walking booking credit rather than a cash refund.
For qualifying cancellations during 2026, credits are normally valid for 12 months from issue.
From 2027, credits will normally be valid for 60 days from issue.
The applicable credit terms will be those stated when the relevant booking is made.
This does not affect any statutory right to a refund where one exists.
18. Weekend Breaks, Short Breaks and Experience Days
Different cancellation arrangements may apply to weekend walking breaks, short walking breaks and experience days.
Where longer cancellation periods or specific conditions apply, these will be clearly stated in the booking information before purchase.
Coast & Country Walking's weekend and short-break charges relate to the organised walking activities unless expressly stated otherwise. Participants arrange and pay for their own accommodation, travel, meals and other personal expenses.
19. Cancellation by Coast & Country Walking
Coast & Country Walking reserves the right to cancel an activity where reasonably necessary, including because of unsafe conditions, severe weather, access problems, illness, insufficient participation or other circumstances that prevent the activity from being safely or reasonably delivered.
Where Coast & Country Walking cancels an activity, participants will normally be offered an appropriate alternative, booking credit or refund of the amount paid for the cancelled Coast & Country Walking activity.
This does not include reimbursement of independently arranged accommodation, travel or other consequential costs unless Coast & Country Walking is legally required to reimburse them.
20. Leaving or Being Removed From a Walk
A participant may choose to leave a walk before completion but should inform the walk leader before doing so wherever reasonably possible.
Coast & Country Walking may refuse or end a person's participation where their behaviour, condition, equipment or actions create a material safety concern, seriously disrupt the activity or place other participants, members of the public, animals or property at unreasonable risk.
21. Photography and Video
Photographs and videos may be taken during activities.
Participants will be given the opportunity to indicate whether they consent to appearing in photographs or videos used by Coast & Country Walking for promotional purposes, including the website and social media.
Reasonable steps will be taken to respect a participant's recorded preference.
22. Conduct
Participants are expected to behave responsibly and respectfully towards other participants, the walk leader, members of the public, landowners and others encountered during activities.
Threatening, abusive, discriminatory, dangerous or seriously disruptive behaviour may result in participation being refused or ended.
23. Complaints and Problems
If a participant has a concern about an activity or service, they should raise it with Coast & Country Walking as soon as reasonably possible so that there is an opportunity to investigate and, where possible, resolve the matter.

24. Changes to These Terms
Coast & Country Walking may update these Terms & Conditions from time to time.
The terms applicable to a particular booking will normally be those in force when the booking is made, except where a change is required by law or is necessary for safety and does not unfairly disadvantage the participant.
25. Governing Law
These Terms & Conditions are governed by the laws of England and Wales.
Nothing in these Terms & Conditions affects a consumer's statutory rights.
